I tried to get my husband to have some Holiday Spirit with me on Thanksgiving, but he wasn't interested.
He did pick me up from the bar after my brother and I enjoyed a few rounds of Holiday Spirit together, though - so long as I agreed to let him stuff his Holiday Spirit in my chimney.
I'm sorry to inform you that's a direct quote.
I don't think Scrooge McYost and I have the same idea of Holiday Spirit.
For the first time ever, I want to decorate. I made us stockings. Now I want lights.
And a tree.
Scrooge's response? "We don't need that shit!"
"But, but...but," my rebuttal. "Let's have Holiday Spirit!"
His closing argument. "Screw Christmas."
My closing argument. "Screw you."
Scrooge: "OK, let's screw!"
My offer: "Not unless we get a tree tomorrow."
Scrooge considers seriously. "Nah, it ain't worth it."
I can feel the Holiday Spirit calling to me. I like it on the rocks with a twist...you?
I have a feeling this Christmas is going to be particularly special, our first. For those of you who've read the Five Love Languages, I'm a Quality Time/Gift Hybrid, so this time of year always feels so ripe with possibility. Generally it leaves me deflated, disappointed and debted, but that shit doesn't come until January. And I can just tell that this December with my charming husband is going to be everything a woman could dream.

aw sweety ... we don't celebrate xmas ... we're scrooges too ... so you're not alone xo
ReplyDeleteThanks Big A :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Big A :)
ReplyDeleteFinally a man with a set of balls..WE men have been deluged this crap for years, a tree this, lights that have to go then down, not counting the sap..Then theirs valentines day, then mothers day, Aniversary of when we first me, kissed etc. birthdays, of mothers in law its hell..... we have to remember all these dates, were not wired this way...yea for your husband..I love this guy.
ReplyDeleteI bet it's hard to be a gift person during the holidays. So many opportunities to be overjoyed...or disappointed. I think you're right, though. You're going to have a great one. And you really should have a tree. They make for some very cool 'our first Christmas' photos to treasure later.
ReplyDeleteI've never been too fond of putting up and taking down decorations, etc... without help. It was ok back when the whole family did it together, but feels like a lot of work for one person. BUT, I did go and buy myself a Christmas Snoopy that lights up to put out by the front door and I do believe I will hang at least one set of white lights... though the lights may stay up year round. :)
ReplyDeleteSo did you get that tree? Or will it be a house plant glittering with lights. Nah, don't want to give your husband any short-cut ideas. Have a nice Xmas
ReplyDeletePS: Came here from the bloggers group on LI. I am enjoying the one week of winter (?), rather let us say cool breeze that we in Mumbai enjoy. And I am doing so by being tucked in bed and busy surfing the web, when I could be dusting cob-webs, but the latter is boring.
